About thisPING
Home internet got faster and more confusing at the same time: Wi-Fi 7, multi-gig plans, provider device lists and a new FCC router rule. thisPING helps you buy the networking gear that works with your internet and your home.
What we cover
- Wi-Fi routers: Wi-Fi 7 and 6E routers, matched to your internet plan.
- Mesh Wi-Fi: whole-home systems, matched to your home size and wiring.
- Modems and gateways: DOCSIS 3.1 cable modems, checked against providers’ own device lists.
- Wired networking: MoCA, powerline, switches and Ethernet.
- NAS and drives: home storage for backups, photos and media servers.
- Homelab: mini PCs and the gear around a home server.
How we research
Every guide starts from official sources and is checked against them before it is published. The full process is on How we choose.
- Manufacturer spec sheets, datasheets and manuals for every number we print.
- Standards bodies for what the numbers mean: the Wi-Fi Alliance, IEEE, CableLabs and the MoCA Alliance.
- Provider device lists and FCC documents for what works on your connection and what is approved, each with the date we checked it.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell rankings. No brand or retailer can pay for a position.
- We don’t claim lab tests or speed tests we haven’t done. When something comes from a spec sheet, we say so.
- We don’t show prices, which go stale quickly. The retailer’s page always has the current price.
- We don’t sell internet plans.
Who’s behind it
thisPING is an independent publication. There are no bylines and no personalities in front of the products: every guide goes through the same steps, research from official sources, a separate fact-check of each claim against those sources, and an editorial review before anything goes live.
How we’re paid
When you buy through some links on thisPING, the retailer may pay us a commission. You pay the same price, and commissions never decide a pick. Details are on our affiliate disclosure.
