These are different products. Check their specifications separately.

  • 1TB Model: MZ-V9S1T0B/AM

Lower capacity; slightly slower on paper (7,150 MB/s read, 850K IOPS random read, 600 TBW).

    Boot drives and light caching.

  • 4TB Model: MZ-V9S4T0B/AM

Double the capacity with the same 7,250 MB/s read rating, 2,400 TBW endurance.

    Larger all-flash NAS pools.

Watch out

  • 990 EVO Plus is not the 990 PRO or the plain 990 EVO: all three are current Samsung NVMe drives with different performance tiers.
  • There is no heatsink version of the 990 EVO Plus in the US; a heatsink sticker from a third party is not Samsung's part.
  • The /AM suffix marks the US retail version; MZ-V9S2T0 without it is the same drive sold through other channels.

Why people pick it

  • Top-tier Gen4 sequential speeds on paper (up to 7,250 MB/s read, 6,300 MB/s write)
  • Runs in either a PCIe 4.0 x4 or PCIe 5.0 x2 slot, so it fits current and older platforms
  • V-NAND TLC with 1,200 TBW endurance and a 5-year limited warranty for the 2TB model
  • HMB design draws less power than DRAM-buffered drives, which suits always-on NAS slots

Know before you buy

  • No onboard DRAM cache; it relies on the host's memory buffer, which many NAS platforms do not support as well as a PC
  • Not the fastest 990 model; Samsung positions the 990 PRO above it for sustained heavy workloads
  • On the maker's own shop page the 2TB shows out of stock, so availability varies by seller
