Watch out

  • My Book and WD Elements are different external lines: My Book carries the 3-year warranty and backup software; WD Elements Desktop has a 2-year warranty.
  • Check the capacity suffix in the part number: WDBBGB0260HBK is the 26TB unit; WDBBGB0040HBK is 4TB.

Why people pick it

  • 26TB in a single external unit, enough to hold a full backup of a large NAS without juggling multiple smaller drives
  • CMR-class desktop hard drive inside with USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) transfer rate for large sequential backup jobs
  • 3-year limited warranty, longer than the 2-year warranty on the WD Elements line

Know before you buy

  • USB 3.2 Gen 1 at 5 Gbps tops out around 400-500MB/s in practice, slower than the drive's native SATA link could burst
  • A single-drive enclosure: no redundancy, so it is a backup target, not a substitute for a RAID NAS
  • No Amazon listing is linked from Western Digital's own product page for this model, so buying it means searching for the exact part number
